Aviation FAQ — DGCA, Flying Schools & Aircraft | Skyworth

Question 1

How do I choose the right flying school in India?

Accepted Answer

Choosing the right flying school depends on your budget, preferred location, aircraft fleet, instructor quality, and DGCA approval status. We evaluate all these factors for your specific profile and recommend the most suitable options — saving you from costly mistakes.

Question 2

What is the difference between a CPL and PPL?

Accepted Answer

A Private Pilot Licence (PPL) allows you to fly for personal use only. A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is required to fly commercially — as an airline pilot, charter pilot, or flight instructor. Most students aiming for an aviation career pursue a CPL.

Question 3

How long does it take to get a CPL in India?

Accepted Answer

A CPL in India typically takes 18–24 months, depending on weather conditions, aircraft availability, and the school's training schedule. The DGCA requires a minimum of 200 flying hours for CPL issuance.

Question 4

Can I train abroad and get my licence converted to an Indian CPL?

Accepted Answer

Yes. DGCA allows licence conversion for pilots trained abroad, subject to specific requirements including written examinations and skill tests. We advise on the conversion process and help you navigate the documentation requirements.

Question 5

What are the requirements to obtain a DGCA flying school licence?

Accepted Answer

A DGCA flying school licence requires approved infrastructure (runway, hangar, classrooms), a minimum fleet of airworthy aircraft, qualified instructors (Chief Flying Instructor and Ground Instructors), and compliance with CAR Section 7. We manage the entire application process on your behalf.

Question 6

How long does the DGCA approval process take?

Accepted Answer

The timeline varies depending on documentation completeness and DGCA workload. With well-prepared documentation, approvals typically take 6–12 months. We work to minimise delays by ensuring your submission is complete and compliant from the outset.

Question 7

What support do you provide after the licence is granted?

Accepted Answer

We provide ongoing compliance support including licence renewal management, DGCA audit preparation, monitoring of regulatory updates, and advisory on any compliance queries or show-cause notices.

Question 8

What approvals are needed to import an aircraft into India?

Accepted Answer

Importing an aircraft into India requires DGCA import approval, customs clearance, Certificate of Airworthiness, and aircraft registration. The process varies depending on whether the aircraft is new or used, and whether it is for private or commercial use. We manage the entire process.

Question 9

What is an NSOP and do I need one for charter operations?

Accepted Answer

A Non-Scheduled Operator Permit (NSOP) is required to operate charter flights commercially in India. It is issued by DGCA and requires compliance with specific operational, safety, and documentation standards. We assist with the full NSOP application process.

Question 10

Can I operate a helicopter for charter purposes in India?

Accepted Answer

Yes, helicopter charter operations are permitted in India under an NSOP. The requirements are similar to fixed-wing charter operations, with additional considerations for helicopter-specific airworthiness and operational standards. We advise on the full approval pathway.
